The parish council extends its thanks and appreciation to the couple who on Sunday morning were out clearing up the mess around the bench opposite Sainsbury's; mess left by Saturday night drunks, this included vomit. The public toilets have been temporarily closed due to serious damage caused by vandalism. The matter will be discussed by the council to consider the next steps. Over the last few weeks the Parish Council has noticed increasing levels of vandalism beginning to take place at the new toilets- the baby changing unit was damaged- soap dispensers burnt at the base- litter bin also shows signs of fire damage- there are clear smell and signs of drug use in the disabled toiletWhilst we have done our best to monitor the situation it has now escalated further this week... The Parish Council will undertake works to the trees at the Old Burial Ground in Castle Street this autumn.
Following consultation with the South Derbyshire District Council tree officer, and in agreement with the Parochial Church Council, works will be to sympathetically prune native trees and remove trees alien to the area.
